Get ready!! Summer Reading Begins June 9th!!

Summer Reading Kick-Off will be Monday, June 9th from 12-3 PM at the Marion Library!

Join us at the Marion Library as we kick off our Summer Reading Program with the theme “Color Our World”! Sign up for summer reading, enjoy fun activities for all ages, and connect with some of our local community partners. Don’t miss a magical performance by B-Rad the Magician from 1-2 PM. Bring the whole family and help us start the summer with a little magic and lots of fun!

Come join up for the next adventure at our weekly D&D club! Beginners are always welcome, and the group is level 5. This program is made possible by donations from community members and our friends at MagiKids.

Unearth a little magic this summer by creating your own Bowtruckle inspired by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! Teens will use craft supplies to build these tiny magical tree creatures while hanging out with fellow wizarding world fans.

Calling all Minecraft fans! Teens can choose from several different Minecraft-inspired crafts and create their favorite blocky designs to take home. Come hang out and enjoy an afternnon of Minecraft-themed fun!

Adopt-a-Critter! Teens will create their own tiny critter using air-dry clay, then tuck it into a cozy critter box to take home.

 

Teen Time/Adolescentes: Aaron Douglas Landscapes/Paisajes de Aaron Douglas

Thursday, June 25th| 4-5 PM | Marion Library

Teens will learn about African-American artist Aaron Douglas who was a leader in the Harlem Renaissance school of painting, and one of the first artists to document the history of the African-American experience through visual art. He is known as “the father of African American Art”. Teens will create their own Landscapes inspired by his work.

An exciting beginner’s guide to jumping into genealogy! We’ll explore the best ways to get started, amazing resources both online and right here in the library, how a librarian can help with your research, and ways to keep your discoveries organized.

Bind your own journal and weather it into an authentic artifact!

Come celebrate the rich history of our Blue Ridge Mountain community by focusing on its pathways and connections through the town’s notable railroad and Pisgah National Forest history. Also catch us at the Rails and Rhythms Bluegrass Festival afterwards at 5:30 PM!

 

Family Beach Day

Saturday, June 13th| 10 AM |Paddy’s Creek (Lake James State Park)

Come out for a day of community and relaxation at Lake James State Park as the Barefoot Baby Foundation and CULA host a beach day event that is free for all!

 

Juneteenth Freedom Festival

Saturday, June 20th| 4 PM |West Marion Community Park (Addie’s Chapel)

Juneteenth is a powerful holiday commemorating the Emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. West Marion Inc. is hosting their 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, taking place June 18th–21st. These events will honor this historic day, uplift our community, and engage individuals of all ages.
