Summer Reading Ends Friday, July 31st! 

-All reading logs, activity logs, and tickets need to be turned in by 5:30 pm on July 31st.

 

Diggery Diggers Dino Show

Thursday, July 30th from 3-4 PM at the Marion Library

Join us for our last Summer Reading event presented by “Diggery’s Dinosaur Adventure”.

-Get ready for a ROARING good time filled with fun, excitement, and a Dino-sized adventure!

 

Teen Time/Adolescentes: Teen D&D/ D&D para adolescentes

Tuesday, July 7 and July 21| 5-7 PM | Old Fort Library

Come join up for the next adventure at our weekly D&D club! Beginners are always welcome, and the group is level 5. This program is made possible by donations from community members and our friends at MagiKids.

Teens are creating personalized art they can use as accessories like key chains, zipper pulls, earring or bookmarks.

 

Teen Time/Adolescentes: Fossils in a Jar/Fósiles en un frasco

Thursday, July 9th| 4-5 PM | Marion Library

Create your own prehistoric fossil sample! Teens will fill jars with soil, sand, moss, and dino fossils to design a miniature Jurassic-style scene to take home.

 

Teen Time/Adolescentes: Build a Monochord/Hacer un monocordio

Tuesday, July 14th| 5-7 PM | Old Fort Library

The monochord, meaning “one string,” is a musical instrument invented in Ancient Greece, where it was used to research fundamental concepts of what we now understand as Western music theory. Come build your own, then see what it can teach you!

 

Teen Time/Adolescentes: Keepsake Coasters/ Posavasos de recuerdo

Thursday, July 16th| 4-5 PM | Marion Library

Create your own keepsake coaster. Bring in any photo or picture that you want to cherish. You can email photos ahead of time to printing@mcdowellpubliclibrary.org with your First and Last name along with Teen Keepsake Coaster as the subject.

Teen Time/Adolescentes: Michael Albert Pop Art/ Arte pop de Michael Albert

Tuesday, July 21st | 3 PM | Marion Library

Join us as pop-artist Albert shares insights into his artistic journey, influences, and the evolution of his collage techniques. He shows numerous examples of his work in the form of posters he has self-published over the past 25 years.

Participants of all ages can engage in creating their own collages using recycled materials, particularly cereal boxes, fostering creativity and environmental awareness.

Cap off our Old Fort teen programs for the summer with a movie night in our Old Fort branch! Of course, popcorn and other snacks will be provided.

Wrap up an awesome summer of reading with our Teen Pizza Party! Join us for a fun, laid-back celebration where you can hang out with friends, play games, and enjoy some delicious pizza. It’s our way of saying thanks for being part of Summer Reading, come celebrate everything you’ve accomplished!

Pioneer Day

Friday, July 3rd | 10 AM | Old Fort 

The Mountain Gateway Museum is having its first Pioneer Day since Hurricane Helene. It will have traditional Appalachian crafts, live music, food trucks, farm demonstrations, children’s games, and much more. It will also coincide with the state’s “America 250 NC” celebration on the July 4th weekend. As always, admission is free!
