Auto Repair Manuals

Chilton-Library

The McDowell County Public Library system now has access to the digital Chilton Library.  Automobile repair manuals from 1940 to 2016 are available to print or view from any internet-enabled device.  Other features include:

  • Step-by-step instructions that provide a one-stop source for answers.
  • Videos and animations that show how to complete repairs.
  • Close-up photos and images to enhance understanding of the text.
  • Wiring diagrams to help explain system operation.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic information that help pinpoint searches.
  • Maintenance and specification tables that highlight key information.

Adult Summer Reading Program

This year adults and seniors are joining the Summer Reading Program! They are challenged to keep track of how many hours they’re reading, attend hands-on workshops, and have a chance to win an Amazon Kindle Fire. Register at either of our libraries in Marion or in Old Fort.

Are you interested in becoming a writer?  Stop by for our writer’s workshop and enjoy a panel discussion of writers from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.  Learn what it takes to get your work published!

  • How do you identify potential funders and make the first approach.

Autism Awareness Month

What is National Autism Awareness Month?

One in every 68 children in America are diagnosed with some form of autism. Almost twenty-five years ago the Autism Society launched a nationwide effort to promote autism awareness and inclusion. National Autism Awareness Month has since grown to become an inspirational movement.

If you’d like to learn more, explore some of these resources:

Autism Speaks , Autism Society, and Autism Society of North Carolina

These organizations provide an overview of the symptoms of autism; state, national and global statistics; resources on current therapies; and how to find local support.

NC Cardinal- Autism

Explore over 775 books, audio-books, and downloadable resources available though our NC Cardinal catalog.  Titles include cookbooks and therapies available for parents and caregivers, a variety of perspectives on the condition of autism, biographies, as well as novels that include characters with autism.

McDowell County School System

Our local school system provides a wide variety of resources for children with autism.  Their website provides a comprehensive list of local groups that parents and caregivers can contact.

Need to make room for summer clothes? Donate gently used, clean clothing (no undergarments please) to the library from April 1st thru May 22nd. On May 24th, patrons may come in and take items they need, all for free. Any items not taken will be donated to the local shelters.
